January 20 - Kosice Chapter. Lecture of doc. Dusan Kovac, DrSc., Director, Historical Institute, Slovak academy of sciences on "100th Anniversary of Development in slovakia".

January 26 - Ottawa Chapter - RNDr Vít Vilímek, a specialist on physical geography and mountain climbing lectured on "Mountains and People of Peru" (Hory a lidé v Peru) and showed slides.

January 30 - Los Angeles Chapter - General Meeting - Elections of new Board of Directors. Report of the Fund Raiser and distribution of the scholarships from Frank Marlow Memorial Scholarship Fund. Film about Emma Destinova, the so called the Devine Emma (made in Czechoslovakia in 1983)

February 4 - SVU Ex. Bd. Meeting. At SVU President's residence, 1703 Mark Lane, Rockville, MD, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

February 10 - Prague chapter. Lecture of Peter Spielman, Director of Bochum Museum in Germany. on Will Nowak and his pupils.

February 13 - Los Angeles Chapter is organizing a visit to the new J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles - members will meet in the Museum for discussion about the collections.

February 15 - Ottawa Chapter - H. E. Slovak Ambassador to Canada MUDr. Miroslav Mikolásik discussed the "Developments in Slovakia since the last Parliementary Elections". The Ambassador is a native of Dolny Kubin near Orava, and studied in France and at Charles University in Prague. After practicing medicine for a number of years he became a member of foreign committe of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. He was appointed Ambassador in April 1999.

February 15 - Washington DC Chapter is showing a film "Jara Cimrman. Zahada - fenomen" with commentary by Frantisek Safertal.

February 19 - Edmonton Chapter, Canada is organizing a concert of a young Czech piano virtuoso Martin Kasik at University of Alberta. The concert is sponsored by Department of Music and the Polish Cultural Society of Edmonton. Contact: Dr. P. Jelen , tel.: (780) 492-2480

February 19 - Swiss Chapter (Bern) - Lecture by PhDr. Jaroslav Sedivy, Ambassador of Czech Republic, on "Beginnings and Probelems of New Foreign Policy after 1989".

March 4 - Pittsburgh Chapter, jointly with the University of Pittsburgh' Czechoslovak Classroom Committee - is planning a meeting to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Thomas G. Masaryk. Presentation by Dr. Zdenek Suda.

March 5 - Los Angeles Chapter is co-sponsoring a Celebration of T.G. Masaryk - Afternoon with a lecture and TV Film, organized in cooperation with other Czech Clubs in L.A.

March 6-7 - Brno Chapter is participating in the celebrations of 150th anniversary of the birth of T.G. Masaryk in Hodonin and Brno..

March 7 - Kosice Chapter. Participation in the 150th anniversary of the birth of T. G. Masaryk, with the lecture of SVU member ThDr. Julius Filo, Bishop Emeritus of Kosice.

March 7 - Pittsburgh Chapter, jointly with the Czechoslovak Room committee of the university of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh-Ostrava City Committee - The Ceremony to Remember the 150th Birthday of Thomas G. Masaryk, Founder and First President of the Czechoslovak Republic.

March 9 - Minnesota Chapter in cooperation with Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota is planning a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birthday of President Thomas G. Masaryk, as well as dedication of the newly completed quarters of the honorary consul of the Czech Republic in St. Paul

March 9 - Swiss Chapter (Bern) - Lectures by Prof. Dr. Erazim Kohak and PhDr. Petr Pithart, VP of the Czech Senate, commemorating the anniversary of the birth of T. G. Masaryk.

April 4 - Brno Chapter is planning a lecture by Antonin Mestan , Professor at Freiburg University, on "Present Day National Stereotypes - Examples of Czech Stereotypes of the Poles and Polish Stereotypes of the Czechs" To be held at the Philosophical Faculty of Masaryk University.

April 6 - Prague Chapter, jointly with the European Cultural Club, is planning a discussion on "Forum 2000 - Retrospect and Prospects" to be moderated by Dr. Jiri Pehe of New York University Branch in Prague.

April 4 - Ottawa Chapter - Kvetuse Vesela, the founder of Orbis pictus Museum at Vychodoceske muzeum in Pardubice, discussed her unique picture postcard collections.

April 8 - Edmonton Chapter is having its Annual Banquet with an invited guest speaker, Prof. Jiri Krupicka, geologist, philosopher and writer, the recipient of a recent prize from the Czech Pen Club for his book, Renesance rozumu.

April 11- Munich Chapter, jointly with the Christian Academy, is sponsoring a lecture on "Antonin Dvorak" to be presented by Prof. Jaroslav Ruis, a member of Dvorak Quartet, Prague. The meeting will take place in Velehrad, Kreuzstrasse 16, near Sendlinger-Tor Platz.

April 13 - Prague Chapter is planning a lecture by an actress Vlasta Chramostova. The meeting is scheduled for 5 PM in the building of the Academy of Sciences, Narodni trida 3, Praha l.

April 15 - Los Angeles Chapter is planning a lecture on Alfons Mucha, His Life and Works.

May 16 - Ottawa Chapter - Josef Coban, a known painter from Czech Republic who recently immigrated to Canada discussed art with a bit of mystique and esthetics. He showed examples of some of his work, using slides. He is a mining electrical engineer by training with expertise in computer graphics.

May 19 - Chicago Chapter is planning a discussion led by attorney Michael P. Seng, professor of law, The John Marshall Law School, on Education in the Czech Republic. United Moravian Societies Clubhouse, Berwyn, IL..

May 23 - Brno Chapter. Sponsoring of a concert of the MIT Symphony Orchestra with the participation of students of the Brno Conservatory.
