Background: The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania recently approved an application submitted on behalf of the Czechoslovak Nationality Classroom Committee of the University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh chapter of SVU to have the plaque honoring the signing of The Pittsburgh Agreement officially recognized as an historic plaque in the state of Pennsylvania. This plaque honors the work of Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, one of the authors of The Pittsburgh Agreement, in leading the Czechs and Slovaks toward the establishment of an independent Czechoslovakia after the First World War. A ceremony to celebrate the unveiling of this official historic marker is planned for this May 31, the same date that the agreement was signed in 1918, and will be held at the site of the original signing in downtown Pittsburgh
